Montserrat was born in Usiacurí, a town in Atlántico where weaving Iraca palm is not a new craft — it's a heritage that's passed down.
Iraca palm (Carludovica palmata) has been transformed for centuries by Colombian artisans who learned the craft from their mothers and grandmothers. At Montserrat, we work directly with weavers from Usiacurí, one of the regions recognized by Artesanías de Colombia alongside Nariño and Caldas, to bring their pieces — bags, accessories, and home objects — without middlemen that increase costs or blur their origins.
Each piece goes through a complete process: harvesting the palm shoot, dyeing the fiber in any of our 25 colors, and final hand-weaving, stitch by stitch, using techniques — like the ojito de perdiz, estera, and mimbre — that in some families are over three hundred years old. There are no machines involved, which is why no two pieces are identical.

Every product we offer is made with natural Iraca palm fiber, hand-woven by Colombian artisans, and comes from production chains that pay fair prices for their work.
